Tabbed Browsing

Many people don't realize they don't need to open a new window every time they want to open a new web page - or even that they can have two pages open at one time! The easiest way to do this is to use "tabs". All major browsers today (Firefox, IE, Safari, Opera, etc) support tabbed browsing. You may need to turn on tabbed browsing in your browser preferences - or it may be on automatically. The Window tabs are generally the very last toolbar just on top of the site you are looking at.

 

 

In this image, there are two tabs:

One for the current site we were looking at - Open Office which is the selected tab

One for Pgh Tech Ministries - which is to the left of the selected tab

 

Clicking on the Pgh Tech Ministries tab will make that page current without closing the other page. You can open a new page in a tab by clicking on the blank tab or the tab with a + sign in it. It is always the tab at the end. This is very handy if you need to work back and forth between sites or if you don't want to lose what you were looking at just because you need to go to another site for a minute.
