RSS

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". RSS allows you to both get a feed from another website or send a feed to anyone who picks up the link to your feed. Your RSS feed may be your latest news stories, an action alert or an announcement. Its whatever content you choose to send from your website.

Open Source

Open Source generally refers to software that is licensed under one (or several) open source licenses such as the GNU or BSD licenses. These licenses have a few differences, but generally allow you to use the software without paying for it AND to modify it. You may NOT claim the software as your own work and you are expected to contribute changes back to the community so that others may benefit from it as well. Most users don't have to worry about that because they don't change the software - they just use it. The "community" is the developer community that wrote the software and which continues to update it and make improvements to it.

VOIP

VOIP stands for Voice over IP. IP stands for Internet Protocol. So VOIP means voice transmissions over the internet. VOIP services are rapidly replacing traditional telephone service as a cost efficient means to make phone calls. The internet is worldwide and by using VOIP services, if you have an internet connection, you can probably use a VOIP services to call anywhere in the world for free or cheap.

WiFi

"WiFi" is the common term applied to wireless internet access. Generally speaking, wifi involves the use of a wireless Cable or DSL router. This is generally supplied by your internet service provider, which is usually your phone company or cable company - or maybe both. The router connects to the cable coming into your house or business and then broadcasts a signal that computers and other devices (like some smart phones and iPads) can connect to. This way there is no need to connect a cable to your computer to access the internet. These days there is lots of "public" wifi which can be accessed at places like airports, hotels, Starbucks and Paneras. It may be free or you may be charged a daily fee.

CMS (Content Management System)

A Content Management System or CMS as it is commonly called is a database driven system that manages content for a website.  Today's social networking sites and other sites that let you log in and manage them from your web browser are usually CMSes.

Hard Drive

Your Hard Drive is where your computer stores the programs you run and all your documents, photes, emails, etc. The bigger your hard drive, the more information you can store. Your hard-drive is kind of like your computer's internal filing cabinet. It takes things out when it needs them and puts them away when its done.

RAM

We're talking about computer RAM, not the animal and not the truck. RAM = Random Access Memory. Manu people confuse RAM (also called memory) and hard-drive space.
